Can I still open the door with a broken spring?
We recommend you don't try. The spring does the heavy lifting — without it, you're deadlifting the door's full weight, and the opener isn't built to do that either. Forcing it can bend panels, burn out the opener, or drop the door. Leave it down and give us a call.
Why do you recommend replacing both springs?
On a two-spring door, both springs have done the same number of lifts. When one breaks, the other is living on borrowed time — and a second service call costs you more than replacing both while we're already there. We'll always tell you what we'd do on our own door.
How long does a spring replacement take?
Most residential spring replacements are done in about an hour once we're on site. We carry common spring sizes on the truck, so the majority of jobs are finished in one visit.
Is spring repair really dangerous to DIY?
